Public Demonstrations of Drowning at Salisbury!
Drowning is the term used for irrigation of the water meadows. The Friends of the Harnham Water Meadows Trust are
presenting public demonstrations of traditional irrigation of the Meadows.
Due to popular demand, The Friends of the Harnham Water Meadows Trust plans two further public demonstrations of meadow irrigation.
Subject to cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances, these are planned for Saturday 13th February and the following week, Saturday 20th February.
On both occasions, meet 10.00 am at Rose Cottage, Town Path, West Harnham SP2 8EU. Wear suitable footwear and protective clothing.
Children are most welcome, but should be kept under close supervision. Sorry, no dogs are allowed on the meadows. The process should last 1.5 to 2 hours.
Guided Walks
We hope to have a Guided Walk over the Meadows every Saturday in July and August. Walkers will also have a chance to see the displays in Rose Cottage and admire the garden. Please come and tell your friends!
Working Parties
Members can take part in Working Parties to help with the restoration and maintenance of the meadows.
These are held once a month throughout the year. Working Parties take place from Jan - March at 9.30am on the second Saturday and from April - July at 4.30pm on the second Wednesday. No booking is required; just turn up at the start time at Rose Cottage. Wellington boots or stout footwear is needed. Tools can be provided.
Everyone is welcome to help but no dogs or small children please. The usual tasks include picking up litter, ragwort removal, control of nettles, brambles etc, weed clearance from the carriers, bonfires and clearance to reveal sluices before restoration. |

Normally given by the Chairman, anywhere in the Salisbury area. To arrange this please telephone 01722 328 162.
New ‘Short’ Walk
For those with lesser walking ability, or lesser time, we have created a shorter walk over the Meadows, starting from Rose Cottage garden. This has involved new gates and bridges, which have been paid for partly from our reserves and partly from a grant to the Trust which was specifically to be used for improvements to the infrastructure of the Meadows.
